World Day against Trafficking in Persons :
World Day against Trafficking in Persons is observed every year on July
30 to raise awareness of the plight of human trafficking victims and promote
and protect their rights. This year, the theme chosen by the United Nations
Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is ‘responding to the trafficking of
children and young people’.

USFDA approved Aurobindo Pharma for generic anticoagulant injection
United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has approved
Aurobindo Pharma Limited for the manufacturing and marketing
of Bivalirudin injection with the strength of 250 mg/vial. It is used as
an anticoagulant in patients with certain conditions.
• The approved Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) is a generic
equivalent to the reference listed drug product Angiomax injection of
The Medicines Company. Aurobindo Pharma has a total of 381 ANDA
approvals from the USFDA. The drug will be launched in the month of

Indian Railways launches Mission Satyanishtha
• The Indian Railways launched ‘Mission Satyanishtha’ and a programme
on Ethics in Public Governance, in a first-of-its-kind event, at a day-
long function held at National Rail Museum, New Delhi. Indian
Railways Minister Piyush goyal administered the oath to the officers
and supervisors at the programme. The first-of-its-kind event was
inaugurated by Ashwani Lohani, Chairman, Railway Board.

Dindigul district administration has proposed to conduct Kodai festival in
the month of August
• The Dindigul district administration has proposed to conduct Kurinji or
Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthianus) flower, Kodai festival in the
month of August. The Kurinji flower, which blossoms once in 12 years
in Kodaikanal, Yercaud and Nilgiris would be showcased. The
Department of Tourism, in association with the Horticulture team and , NGOs conducts this fest by taking the visiting tourists to these spots.

FSSAI sealed an edible oil manufacturing unit under the suspicion of
• Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) sealed an edible
oil manufacturing unit near Kinathukkadavu in Coimbatore under the
suspicion of adulteration. The unit was sealed with 64,774 litres of
edible oil worth Rs.70 lakh.


Swelect introduced a technique to produce pure drinking water using
sunlight and air
Swelect Energy Systems Ltd. has partnered with the U.S. based
Zero Mass Water for the project ‘Source’, a hydro (solar) panel. It
aims at providing pure drinking water using sunlight and air.
• In this, the water vapour from the air will be drawn into the Source
through fans. As the air flow passes through a condenser, the vapour
will be collected. It then flows into a reservoir where it is mineralised
with calcium and magnesium. Water is pumped through a polishing
cartridge before being delivered to a dispenser. The cost of one panel
is Rs.2 lakh. It can generate up to 5 litres of water/day depending on
humidity and sunlight.


Odisha To Implement Own Food Security Act From October
• Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced that the state
government would implement its own food security act from October 2
this year.
• Odisha’s own food security act would cover nearly 34.44 lakhs people
who have been left out from the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

• Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Shri Shripad
Yesso Naik laid the foundation stone of the 2nd Phase of Construction
of North East Institute of Ayurveda & Homeopathy (NEIAH) at NEIAH
Campus, Mawdiangdiang, Shillong on 29thJuly 2018.
• The approximate estimated cost of the construction is Rs 40.80 crore

HSBC appointed Surendra Rosha as India CEO
• The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) has
appointed Surendra Rosha as the CEO for HSBC India. He succeeds
Jayant Rikhye, who is taking leave of absence for medical reasons.


BEML agreed to ally with HEC agree for mining equipment
• BEML Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Heavy
Engineering Corporation (HEC) Ltd. to manufacture and market heavy
engineering and mining equipment. The MoU was signed in the
presence of Coal India Ltd. Chairman Anil Kumar Jha.

EIL has launched Electric Vehicle charging and battery swapping
infrastructure initiative
• Essel Infraprojects Ltd, (EIL) has launched Electric Vehicle
charging and battery swapping infrastructure initiative under Essel
Green Mobility Limited in Lucknow.
• Essel Infraprojects is planning to invest Rs.1,750 crore on this project.
Under the project, EIL has initiated 250 charging stations, 1,000
battery swapping stations in 20 cities of Uttar Pradesh. EIL will also
invest in the deployment of 25,000 e-rickshaws simultaneously.


Mohun Bagan Ratna Conferred On Pradip Chowdhury
• Mohun Bagan ‘Ratna’, the highest honor of Mohun Bagan club was
awarded to former India international Pradip Chowdhury at its
foundation day programme.
Pradip Chowdhury is a former Mohun Bagan captain. He is the
18th recipient of Mohun Bagan ‘Ratna’ award.
This award was first given to Sailen Manna in 2001.

Other awardees are:
1. Goalkeeper Shilton Paul– Best Footballer for the year 2017-18,
2. Sudip Chatterjee– Best Cricketer,
3. Sourav Das– Best Youth Footballer Player,
4. Special award – Rahim Ali for his performance in the U-17 World Cup.

ONGC conferred with INFRA Icon Award
• Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) was granted the INFRA IconAward in the 'Worldwide Energy' class at the noontime INFRA Icons Awards 2018, in Mumbai. The honor was given away by Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Pravin Darare.

First Nepal-India Think Tank Summit Began in Kathmandu
• The Think Tank summit is organized by the Asian Institute of
Diplomacy and International Affairs and Nehru Memorial Museum
Library. The main objective of the summit is to strengthen bilateral
relations between India and Nepal through multi-faceted collaboration
among think-tanks in both the countries.

Dustin Johnson won the Canadian Open 2018
Dustin Johnson, an American professional golfer, won the Canadian
Open title. This is his third Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA)
victory in 2018. This win is the 19th title of his career.

Indian Juniors won six medals at Jordan Table Tennis meet 2018
Indian junior paddlers won six medals in the individual events at the Jordan
Junior and Cadet Open 2018 in Jordan. The medals included a gold, three

Egypt beat England to win boy’s title at WSF-World Junior Squash team
• Egypt defeated England, 2-0 to win the boy’s title at the WSF-
World Junior Squash team championship in Chennai. Egypt’s
Marwan Tarek, who lost the individual championship final, defeated
Nick Wall of England in straight games. The first game saw Tarek
poised to win easily before Wall fought back to 10-all.
